The Chinese market is a real boon for Morocco in the midst of a debate on the revival of the national economy and the promotion of local production, said Mohammed Benchekroun, professor of economics at the University of Ningbio in China, quoted by the Moroccan weekly + Telquel + in its latest issue. “The next challenge for Morocco is to rebalance its trade balance and to be able to export Moroccan products to the Chinese market,” insists Mohamed Benchekroun. But, according to the Moroccan publication, the question that now arises is what the Kingdom could export to the Asian giant, which in 2015 became the world’s leading exporter.
For Mr. Benchekroun, “the Chinese market is fond of high quality products. It is indisputable that with its middle class of 500 million people, China could be interested in Moroccan agri-food products”.
For his part, the president of the Moroccan Export Association (ASMEX), Hassan Sentissi El Idrissi, explains that the Moroccan offer “could find niches with high potential on the Chinese market”.
“However, precise targeting will have to be established on the basis of market studies, regular promotional offers and support by Chinese market experts, in order to identify the needs of the population, to adapt the offer to meet the demands of consumers and to face competition, underlined Mr. Sentissi, quoted by the publication.
According to the Moroccan Association of Exporters (ASMEX), several export opportunities to China present themselves today for Moroccan operators, in particular agri-food products, including citrus fruits, fish products and organic products.
The weekly also mentioned the role of intermediary between China, Europe and Africa that Morocco can play in these times of crisis in order to confirm its regional position, strengthen its economic partnerships and trade through the three continents but also develop Moroccan exports and penetrate the Chinese market of more than 1.3 billion consumers.
