An economic meeting aimed at presenting Chinese economic operators with trade and investment opportunities in Morocco, and in the Casablanca-Settat region in particular, was organized last Friday in hybrid mode, at the initiative of the General Confederation des entreprises du Maroc (CGEM), in partnership with the Council for the Promotion of Foreign Trade of China (CCPIT).
This meeting, which was attended by more than 200 Chinese companies, also aimed to create concrete synergies and partnerships between the companies of the two countries, as well as to encourage Chinese companies to establish themselves in this region which presents several opportunities for investors, in particular on the eve of the implementation of the new Investment Charter, indicates the CGEM in a press release.
On this occasion, Morocco’s ambassador to China, Aziz Mekouar, stressed that “despite the international health crisis, Morocco-China cooperation and trade have experienced significant growth”, reports MAP.
China remains Morocco’s third largest trading partner from 2016 to 2021, he recalled, noting that these exchanges, which have grown by 50%, from 4 to 6 billion dollars, testify to the strength and durability of this relationship, which is equipped with a cooperation framework and unprecedented monitoring mechanisms”.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador to Morocco, Li Changlin, indicated that Morocco is a stable country from the political and economic point of view, which remains open to Africa, adding that moreover, the business climate is favorable to investment, particularly in the energy, mining, hydrogen and health sectors.
The chairman of the Morocco-China Business Council, Mehdi Laraki, for his part, pointed out that “the organization of this forum is concrete proof of the strong commitment and excellent bilateral relations between Morocco and China”, noting that “Morocco can serve as a gateway to Africa for Chinese companies, where our banks, insurance companies and construction companies are very well established”.
B to B (Business to Business) are planned following this meeting to ensure the follow-up and support of these companies until the conclusion of partnerships, he argued, announcing that Casablanca is the second stage, after Souss-Massa, of a tour that will span all regions of Morocco to introduce Chinese companies to the various investment opportunities in the Kingdom.
The representatives of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Investment Center, Attijariwafa Bank, Bank of Africa, Bank of China, China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) took part in this Forum.
