The curtain fell on Wednesday on the “Morocco-China Business Council Forum” organized in Agadir by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), through its Morocco-China Business Council in partnership with the Trade Promotion Council outside of China (CCPIT).
In detail, nearly 300 Chinese companies, having shown great interest in the Souss Massa region, participated, by videoconference, in this great event in addition to 40 Moroccan companies. The latter were put in direct contact with their Chinese counterparts through virtual B2B meetings, in the presence of experts who accompanied these companies throughout their discussions. “We have adopted an innovative and operational format in order to create synergies and concrete partnerships between companies of the two countries in strategic and high value-added sectors of activity, namely agriculture, tourism, education and health. Our Business Council supports companies in all stages of this process until the conclusion of the partnership,” said Mehdi Laraki, Chairman of the Morocco-China Business Council.
“China has been Morocco’s third largest trading partner for several years and our trade is growing year by year. However, the latter have not yet reached their potential,” said Aziz Mekouar, Morocco’s ambassador to Beijing, on this occasion. “That is why today’s Forum, and more specifically its innovative format, is an unprecedented opportunity. It will identify, match and operationalize previously unexplored avenues of cooperation,” he added. This forum, which will soon be duplicated in other regions of Morocco, saw the participation of an audience of businessmen from the Souss-Massa region as well as several institutional operators, including Majid Joundy, president of the CGEM Souss -Massa, Brahim Hafidi, president of the Souss-Massa region, and Marouane Abdelati, general manager of the Souss-Massa Regional Investment Center.
On the Chinese side, the forum was marked by the remote presence of Li Changlin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Morocco, and Zhao Jianying, Deputy Director General of the Bilateral Cooperation Department of the China International Chamber of Commerce. It should be noted that the Morocco-China Business Council Forum follows the exclusive partnership between the CGEM and the CCPIT, signed in January 2021 by Chakib Alj, President of the Confederation, and Gao Yan, President of the CCPIT, to support the Moroccan private sectors and Chinese in identifying business opportunities and promoting investment and co-investment.
