To better position itself in China, one of the world’s most sought-after tourism markets, Morocco is adopting the “Welcome Chinese” certification, a benchmark label for welcoming Chinese travelers. This initiative marks a new step in the national strategy of diversifying source markets by targeting a clientele with strong growth potential.
At the forefront of this initiative is Yangjin He, known as Yummy (pictured), a Chinese-Moroccan entrepreneur who has been living in Morocco for over ten years. A graduate in tourism management from China and holding an MBA from Thailand, she has built a career combining journalism, luxury hospitality, and entrepreneurship. At the helm of several businesses in travel, restaurants, and services, she is now working to bridge the gap between the Moroccan and Chinese tourism ecosystems. “I have always believed that travel is a bridge between cultures. With ‘Welcome Chinese,’ we are creating this bridge so that Morocco becomes a familiar, welcoming destination, perfectly suited to the expectations of Chinese visitors,” she explains.
The “Welcome Chinese” certification is based on specific standards designed to enhance the experience of Chinese visitors: signage and communication in Mandarin, an appropriate culinary offering, a level of service that respects cultural norms, and payment methods widely used in China, such as China UnionPay. Certified establishments also benefit from increased visibility through the network of the China Academy of Tourism and the support of institutional partners such as the public broadcaster CCTV.
Already adopted by major international players, from Paris Airports to Rome Fiumicino Airport, including Accor Hotels and the Ferrari Museum, this certification is establishing itself as a mark of credibility in the Chinese market.
